The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias “Sustainability Series”

The NOLADrinks Show “Sustainability Series” brings you important conversations connected to the world of drink, food, and culture. We take a wide view of what that means. Topics include environmental issues, social justice, and health and wellness. The series looks at these themes as they relate to the liquor industry, the hospitality industry, food and food production, cultural preservation, and much more.

The idea of sustainability has always been of great importance to me. I worked for nearly ten years in environmental non-profits. The lion’s share of that was coral reef and marine protected area work in the developing world. As I moved into the wine industry, much of the project work there was connected to sustainability in the vineyard – both from an ecological standpoint and a human one.

Themes of learning from and respecting different cultures, backgrounds, and realities have always been central to me. They are central to this series, as well. The NOLADrinks Show “Sustainability Series” seeks to be informative and, at times, challenging. I look forward to the continued opportunities to learn from it and I hope you do, too!

Cheers, You All!

~ Bryan

On this week’s The #NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias we’re talking about whiskey and invasive green crabs! You may say, “what the?!?” But it’s a fascinating partnership between New Hampshire’s Tamworth Distilling and Mercantile and the University of New Hampshire’s Sea Grant program. The European green crab is a troubling invasive species in the region that is being exacerbated by climate change. In this innovative effort to raise awareness, Tamworth Distilling is producing a whiskey that utilizes culled green crabs (think: crab boil seasoning flavor) in a unique spirit, “Crab Trapper.” Our guests are Steven Grasse and Will Robinson of Tamworth Distilling and Dr. Gabriela Bradt of the University of New Hampshire.

Please note – this show was taped over a week ago prior to today’s disheartening and destructive news. As regular listeners know, The NOLADrinks Show is about equity, inclusivity, and human rights. This certainly includes a woman’s right to choose. We stand firmly against the Supreme Court ruling and will continue our messaging of social justice moving forward.
