NOLADrinks Show – 6-29-17 – Food Tour, Summer Beer and Old Rail Brewing Company

We kick things off talking about the “Summer Harvest Dinner” locavore dinner that took place at Meauxbar earlier in the week. We discuss the virtues of sourcing local and more about the delicious meal and drinks. We touch on a new Rosé deodorant, continuing the phenomenon of this style of wine (and, perhaps, unnecessarily so!)

Then, we chat with Adrienne Miller, Beverage Director, of Toups’ Meatery and Toups South about our new semi-regular feature we are, tentatively, calling, “Food Tour.” (We need a better name – help us and let us know on our Facebook page!) The idea is we will visit various establishments and types of cuisine and, well, eat and talk about it!

We chow down on some Mexican food and chat about Adrienne’s connection to it, as she is half Mexican-American and grew up around it in her family’s kitchen. We also chat about what we’re going to do in the future with the segment and more! We recorded this portion of the show at the  Southern Food and Beverage Museum (also home to the Museum of the American Cocktail.)

The show then moves to the Northshore of New Orleans where we visit Old Rail Brewing Company in Old Mandeville. It’s an excellent brewpub with a terrific beer program. Brewmaster, Matt Horney, joins us along with Sal Mortillaro, national ranked certified beer judge and reviewer. We talk about summer beer, the program at Old Rail, beer competitions, homebrewing, and more.

It’s an interesting conversation where we cover various styles of beer and their production methods with a bit of a focus on summer beer selections we can all enjoy. We touch on saisons, bocks, the differences in styles of lagers – particularly, American versus German – and much more. We also tell you how you can check out Old Rail Brewing Company and get their beers – only available on-site! They’re worth it.

Below the map highlighting spots discussed on the show, you can subscribe to, download, and stream the NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias podcast. Hey – we’re now on Stitcher! Here’s the direct link to the show there.

Cheers, You All!
