NOLADrinks Show – French Quarter Fest Series – Evan Christopher and Fermín Ceballos – Feb20Ep3

We start the show off letting you know what’s on tap with this week’s episode and some griping from your host about having a tooth yanked!

Then, we head to the finest record store on the planet, Louisiana Music Factory for the latest round of our French Quarter Fest Series. If you don’t know about the series already, we chat with local musicians who perform at the Fest about their music, their connection to food and drink, what it means to play French Quarter Fest, and much more.

In our first series episode of 2020, leading up to this year’s annual French Quarter Fest taking place April 16-19, we welcome to great musicians to the show. The fine clarinetist, Evan Christopher, and the terrific Dominican guitarist, Fermín Ceballos, join us for a terrific chat about their wide-ranging music, their influences, backgrounds, and much more.

As we also always do, we touch on their connection to food and drink including Fermín letting us know where to hook-up with some legit Dominican food in the NOLA area and Evan discussing how one of his great joys of touring is exploring the various cuisines he discovers.

Next, we talk about what it means to each of them participate in and perform at French Quarter Fest. Evan and Fermín also let us know where you can catch them performing and how to connect with them online, as well.

Both stick around for Another Shot with NOLADrinks where we have a poignant conversation about supporting musicians, their cultural importance, and more!

Then, we have our new regular feature, Liquid Luggage! We’re joined, as we will be on a regular basis, by spirits broker, consultant, and educator, Phil Minissale of PM Brokerage.

In our inaugural installment of Liquid Luggage, we explore some terrific expressions. We do this from the fine new cocktail bar and bottle shop, The Grapeful Ape, located in Old Mandeville across the lake from New Orleans. We discuss three great spirits – Mahon Gin, El Buho Mezcal, and Amrut Whisky. Then, we’re joined by the Ape’s head bartender, Paul Calecas, who shares with us some great cocktails he’s crafted using what Phil has in his bag. (Get it? It’s Liquid Luggage, you all!)

See more on this installment of Liquid Luggage including the cocktail recipes, what we taste and discuss, the location of Grapeful Ape, and more here.
