On this week’s The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we chat about the terrific “Son of a Saint” organization, a non-profit that mentors and supports at-risk boys and young men through much of the formative years of their lives. We also let you know how you can purchase a special margarita at select locations to benefit the cause!

Our featured interview, recorded at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, is all about the fine non-profit, Son of a Saint.

It’s a broad-based program that provides mentorship, teaches life skills, and much more. We chat with the organization’s founder Bivian “Sonny” Lee III, whose father was a Saints defensive back and passed suddenly when Sonny was only three. Also joining us is Nick Guth of Proximo Spirits. He is a program mentor and shepherded an initiative with Jose Cuervo Tequila supporting the organization.

We discuss the long-term approach of supporting boys and young men from an early age to young adulthood through a holistic approach. Son of Saint provides a wide range of services and activities throughout the young person’s tenure in the program.

Importantly, the organization pairs participants with mentors who provide one-on-one interaction and support and, perhaps most critically, “are there” as needed to be a positive role model.

Sonny gives us some background on the organization and the breadth of assistance they offer, as well as sharing his own personal experience that led to Son of a Saint. Nick shares the rewarding aspects of being a mentor.

He lets us know, as a beverage industry professional with Proximo Spirits, how they launched a program, through support from Jose Cuervo, where you can purchase a margarita at numerous great establishments in the Greater New Orleans area benefitting the organization. Nick also mixes up a couple rounds of margaritas for us!
