On this week’s The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we’re back after a bit of a break! We are over at Ecology Beer Creative, a new brewery opening in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans in spring 2023. We’re joined by our good friend (and one half of our “Unpaid Beer Correspondent” duo), Matt Horney. He’s been a regular guest talking brews on the show for years and, if you’re a regular listener, you know he’s an exceptionally talented beermaker. Well, this new brewery is his baby and we hear all about Matt’s new spot and get a taste of what he’ll be up to. Of course, we talk beer and sip on some “archetype” examples of various styles discussing what they are, how he approaches making these types of beers, and much more!

We’re back it after some time off! This time around, we are talking about a new brewery coming to New Orleans in spring of 2023. What makes that good news even better is that friend of the show and brewmaster extraordinaire, Matt Horney, is the person behind the project! We’re so very happy to see him take this well-earned step owning and operating his own spot!

Matt joins us over at his soon-to-be brewery, called “Ecology Beer Creative.” There is a lot going on in the space to get it going in the next few months. But it was fun to hang out in the tank room and get you a preview of some things to expect from Matt and the crew when they open!

In shows past, Matt is one half of our “Unpaid Beer Correspondent” team along with our pal, Sal Mortillaro. Sal, as we note during the chat, is “on assignment.” He’s a member of the Army Reserve and he’s out fulfilling his duty in that regard (but rest assured, we know “beer research” is also happening!) Thanks to Sal for his service and he’ll be back on soon.

When those two are on, we always talk “beers,” of course, and we’ve done numerous deep dives into particular styles, categories, and thinks like water, malt, and hops, too. Often, in those instances, we use Matt’s creations from his previous gig to aid in telling the story.

But Since Matt hasn’t started in with the beermaking just yet at Ecology Beer Creative, we decided to do something a little different. We pick a handful of “go-to” or “archetype” beers to inform our chat about a few different styles (think: “Sierra Nevada Pale Ale” and “Modelo.”) We chat about what we taste and how Matt approaches some of these styles when he does them.

Stay tuned for more news on Ecology Beer Creative. We’ll let you know when the doors open and you can enjoy some top-flight suds, enjoy the indoor and outdoor areas, and even catch food trucks and live music over there!

Cheers and Be Well, You All!
