On this edition of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias we pay a visit to St. Roch Market, a food hall in the St. Roch area of New Orleans! We chat with four food vendors and the two folks who run the beverage program at the hall’s bar, The Mayhaw. We discuss some of the various food and drink options to be found there, what the mission of St. Roch Market is, and what a food hall of this type does and represents.

We’re on-location on this installment of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias. We’re at St. Roch Market, a food hall that boasts a dozen food vendors with varied cuisine, a craft cocktail bar, and to-go and delivery options.

First up, we chat with Sophie Burton and Benton Bourgeois who work with the overall market as well as running the bar, The Mayhaw. We discuss the market, its story, and how it works. This includes a conversation on the entrepreneurial and support components the market provides to its food vendors. Many of whom use the opportunity to start their own brick-and-mortar establishments, food trucks, or go off in a completely different direction.

Also, we talk about the terrific diversity of food available in the market. Cuisine ranges from BBQ to Burmese and much more! We chat with four food vendors about their operations, their cuisine, and what it’s like being a part of the market.

They include Charly Pierre of Fritai (Haitian), Shannon Bingham of Emmylou’s (BBQ), Kellen Poindexter of Poindexter’s (Deli), and Alex Regules of Laksa NOLA (Burmese and Malaysian). In these short interviews – most of the time it’s a one-person operation at their stall and we didn’t want to keep hungry guests waiting! – we touch on their respective backgrounds and why they cook what they do.

What’s great food without great drinks? Sophie and Benton let us know about the drink program at The Mayhaw bar, as well.

We talk about what we taste with our guests (thanks to them for serving us up with some delicious food and drink!) as we go. Of course, we let you know when and how you can visit the market. As an added note, we want to be sure to let you know they are making great efforts to keep guests, vendors, and employees safe from covid.
