On this edition of the NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we feature more Tales of the Cocktail 2017 interviews. We talk gin and genever with Myriam Hendrickx of Rutte Distillery. Then, we talk Pisco with Erick Aponte of the Peruvian government, Diego Loret de Mola of Barsol Pisco, and Johnny Schuler of Pisco Portón. We close out with Paul Hletko of FEW Spirits.

The NOLADrinks Show – 8-17-17 – More Tales of the Cocktail 2017 Interviews

We kick-off the show a little differently from how we have lately. Given recent events in the United States, our usual thinly veiled “joke” about 45 (it usually writes itself…) seemed inappropriate. Instead, I talk about how hate groups are wrong and there are not “two sides.” I connect this, at least from my viewpoint, to the service industry, drink and food, opportunity, and inclusion in New Orleans and beyond.

We then continue with more Tales of the Cocktail 2017 interviews. First up, it’s an interesting chat with Myriam Hendrickx, Master Distiller of Rutte Distillery. This historic distiller from Netherlands produces terrific gins and genever. We chat with Myriam about what they do, their gins, and a discussion on genever.

Up next, we come from an event sponsored by the Peruvian government held at the Calcasieu to promote and educate about Pisco (one of our favorite topics, as you probably know, on the show.) We discuss the special spirit with Erick Aponte, Trade Commissioner for Peru, Diego Loret de Mola (pictured at left), owner of Barsol Pisco, and Johnny Schuler owner of Pisco Portón. It’s a great round of interviews with some important folks in the industry.

We close out the interviews visiting with Paul Hletko founder and distiller with FEW Spirits. A wonderful craft distiller based in Chicago. It’s an interesting chat about Paul’s program, his background and passion, and of course, we taste some delicious stuff including some gin and whiskey.

We close out the show circling back on the interviews. We also talk about a couple of things going on around town. One highlight is the Appetite for Life WLAE auction put on by our good friend Tim McNally.
