On this edition of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we’re having our regular beer chat with Matt Horney and Sal Mortillaro. This time around, we discuss lagers – what are they, how they’re made, and what expressions are out there. We also have some fun getting Matt and Sal’s reaction to a few current beer trends.

NOLADrinks Show – 9-9-19 – Lager Beer with Matt and Sal

As always, we start off letting you know about this week’s show. We also let you know about next week’s show – the second installment of our “NOLA Neighborhoods” series. This time, we’ll feature the Oretha Castle Haley area of New Orleans’ Central City.

Then, we’re off to Old Rail Brewing Co. located in Old Mandeville, across the lake from New Orleans, for our featured interview. As we usually do when we talk brews, we’re joined by our regular beer experts, Matt Horney and Sal Mortillaro. Matt is a certified beer judge and is the brewmaster at Old Rail. Sal is one of about 65 “grand master” beer judges on the planet through the Beer Judging Certification Program.

This time around, we discuss “lagers.” We let you know several things about this sometimes-misunderstood style of beer. We talk about how they’re made and how they differ from other categories. We also discuss various styles within the world of lagers and where you find those produced ranging from the “American light style” to numerous long-standing Old World expressions.

Matt and Sal stick around for “Another Shot with NOLADrinks” where I ask them to reach to a few anecdotal examples of trends from the world of beer these days! We close things out with our “Parting Shot” talking about consumer reviews and some connected thoughts.
