On this edition of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we’re jam-packed with interviews! First up, we talk with Rudi Cararro and Salvatore Tafuri of Montenegro Amaro and Aperitivo Select. We’re also joined by Gabriel Manfredi of the noted London bar, Oriole. We talk about these two categories and low-ABV cocktails. Then, we head over to the Louisiana Restaurant Association Expo and talk about the state’s restaurant business, its importance, and more.

NOLADrinks Show – 8-6-18 – Montenegro Amaro – Aperitivo Select – Louisiana Restaurant Association

We start right in with our interview, recorded during Tales of the Cocktail, with the guys from Montenegro Amaro and Aperitivo Select. We’re joined by the very entertaining Salvatore Tafuri, Rudi Cararro, and Gabriel Manfredi. The last of which is also a bartender at Oriole, a great spot located in London.

We discuss amari, generally a bitter liqueur from Italy. There’s a whole range of styles and flavor profiles out there. We taste and chat about their brand, Montenegro, one of the more popular choices on the market. We also talk about their aperitif (or “aperitivo” in Italian) – Aperitivo Select. It’s a nice example of the style that is versatile and distinct from other ones out there. We talk about how aperitivos are often enjoyed throughout the day in the form of spritzes, and due to its lower ABV, can be consumed over long periods of time – think sitting at a lovely outdoor Italian café! We touch on different cocktails that feature these spirits, as well.

Next up, we go to the Morial Convention Center here in New Orleans for the annual Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) Expo. It’s a big trade show that draws attendees from all over the state’s restaurant scene and vendors from around the country and beyond.

First, we chat with LRA President and CEO, Stan Harris (pictured at left, on the right), and Dwight Prudhomme (pictured at left, far left) of Republic National Distribution Company (RNDC), a large liquor distributor and major partner of the LRA. We talk about the importance of the restaurant industry to the state, both economically and culturally. We also discuss what the LRA does on behalf of the industry and how partners, like RNDC, work with the group.

Then, Wendy Waren, Vice President of Communication for the LRA joins us along with Mary Beth Farris of Tabasco – the famed Louisiana pepper sauce. They, also, are an important LRA supporter and partner. We talk about how Tabasco has become a world-wide phenomenon including being the inspiration for an opera originally performed in New Orleans in 1894 and recently resurrected for a performance this year. We even talk about how this opera in the late-nineteenth century served as the impetus for the Tabasco “mini” bottle that can even be found these days in MRE’s!

Stan and Dwight stick with us on “Another Shot with NOLADrinks” where we get further into the conversation. Also, Rudi, Salvatore, and Gabriel hang out, as well, as we discuss low-ABV cocktails. We close things out in our “Parting Shot” with a further bit of discussion on low-ABV drinks and the upward trend their enjoying these days.

Thanks to our friends at Sylvain for hosting our chat with the guys from Montenegro Amaro and Aperitivo Select! Below the map that shows the location of Sylvain, you can subscribe to, stream, and download The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias podcast

Cheers, You All!
