On this edition of The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias, we take a rare break from airing an entirely new show (we’re blaming the heat here in New Orleans!) So, we run some great segments from recent shows. We talk with Evan Meeker of Del Maguey Mezcal, Neal Bodenheimer of Cure and Tales of the Cocktail, where we discuss that event, and we also share some tips and ideas for batching cocktails.

NOLADrinks Show – 5-17-18 – Del Maguey Mezcal – Tales of the Cocktail – Batch Cocktails

We kick things off in the studio letting you know about what’s on tap for this episode. We also talk about some things happening around New Orleans in the near future.

We then move into our segments from recent shows. First up, we talk with Evan Meeker of Del Maguey Mezcal. This was from our show (the full episode is here) connected to Agave Week and Top Taco NOLA. We discuss mezcal, the Del Maguey brand, and touch on some issues connected to agave production in Oaxaca.

Next up, we run our interview with Neal Bodenheimer of Cure and Tales of the Cocktail. Congrats to Cure for winning this year’s James Beard “Outstanding Bar Program.” Of course, this ran before that bit of news, but a shout-out nonetheless. Here, we focus on the future of Tales of the Cocktail.

This show (see the original broadcast here) ran before the transaction, where Neal (pictured at left) and the Solomon Family took over Tales, was even complete. However, at the time, Neal wanted to get the word out on what they were looking to do to improve the event and the organization, some restructuring, and keeping it here in New Orleans. It’s interesting to listen to this chat where we touch on many things that have or are coming to fruition currently.

Then, we have a segment on some tips and ideas for batching cocktails. This show (entire episode is here) ran around the time of Mardi Gras with the idea that these tips are perfect for Carnival and leading into festival season here in New Orleans. As we move into summer, we still have festivals (it’s year-round here, really) and, of course, if you can take the heat, BBQ’s, beach trips, and pool parties. These concepts should still serve you well!

We close things out talking about the newly opened Longway Tavern, located in the French Quarter, where we will be taping the show next week. We also mention a recent bust in Mexico that confiscated a large amount of fake Tequila.

We’ll be back with a new show next week! You can subscribe to, stream, and download the The NOLADrinks Show with Bryan Dias podcast

Cheers, You All!
