We start things off in the first two segments talking about today’s show and some other programming notes, including two new ways you can get the NOLADrinks Show on podcast – on the new National Food and Beverage Foundation podcast platform and on Spotify! We also talk about two great events that went on last weekend – The Bloody Mary Festival and Hogs for the Cause.

Then, Shelley Buchanan of the Drunken Tomato joins the show. We talk about her four books, all regional Bloody Mary guides, as well as what the Drunken Tomato community is all about. With both Brian and Shelley, of course, we talk Bloody Marys, regional variations, and the Bloody Mary Festival New Orleans.

In the second half of the show, we welcome Ruby Bloch of Salt and Light Pastry Co.- a verytalented pastry chef here in New Orleans. We discuss her background, how she got into being a pastry chef, her approach to flavor, ingredient use, and more. We also talk about her current stint on the Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship. The show, though taped last fall, it’s currently airing on Monday evenings.

It’s a super interesting chat with Ruby where we cover the differences between being a “baker” and a “pastry chef,” what she’s up to with her new business, and we even get some inside scoop on the TV Show! Special thanks to our friends at Louisiana Music Factory for letting us tape this interview at their spot!
