NOLADrinks – 10-5-17 – Cajun Spirits Distillery
We kick things off talking about hurricane relief and connected efforts by the New Orleans service industry community to help out victims of these recent disasters. We also let you know where, in the New Orleans area, you can help out folks (it is much needed!) in Puerto Rico. We also talk about a dinner that took place right after the radio broadcast of the show at Cavan that was a paired meal with saké.
Then, we pay a visit to Cajun Spirits Distillery located in New Orleans. We chat with Edward Haik, distiller, and one-half of a family duo, along with his brother, Gus, that operates the distillery. We talk about their story and how they got things off the ground.
We also taste through some nice stuff and talk about what they make and their production program. It’s a fun visit chatting about their spirits, their stills (pictured at left), how they source local Louisiana sugarcane, and much more. Lastly, we mention how you can pay them a visit and highlight their soon-to-be-open tasting room!
We close out the show talking about a few other events going-on around town (in some cases, weather permitting due to tropical cyclone Nate.) One note – the event at Pontchartrain Vineyards scheduled for Saturday (October 7) has been postponed. Stay tuned for a new date.
We focus on South Africa Wine Week coming up from October 30 to November in New Orleans. We cover some of the scheduled events, with more to come, and touch on some of the themes and advantages of wines from that country. NOLADrinks is the official media partner of the event. So, stay tuned for much more on this fascinating wine producing nation!
