NOLADrinks Show – 6-1-17 – Whisky Highball

We kick things off, as usual, talking about some events happening around town. We then get into last week’s poll on what one should one tip on a $25 pour of a premium spirit. We discuss the results and some things to think about when deciding how you should tip.

We then move into next week’s poll on what is your favorite variation of the classic Negroni cocktail. We detail how there is a multitude of variations out there, some ideas on what a variation might look like, and more. We mention that June 5-11 is Negroni Week. You can answer the poll here.

Next up, we discuss the recent spate of restaurant closures in New Orleans, some ideas on interpreting what’s behind it – is it that the “bubble” has burst or something else, and how it could be a rough summer. We cover some beverage news on how global alcohol consumption was down in 2016 and some of the dynamics behind that.

Our guest Liam Deegan of Barrel Proof along with a “surprise guest,” Gillian White of Meauxbar, then turn up. We chat about their thoughts on the tipping question. We then move into discussing drinking lighter whiskey in the warm months with a particular focus on Suntori Toki Whisky and a great discussion on the Whisky Highball cocktail – there’s more there than you might think! We close out the discussion talking about their view on the Negroni and its variations.

Below the map that features some of the locations discussed on the show, you can subscribe to, stream, and download the podcast.

Cheers, You All!

~ Bryan
