NOLADrinks – 2-9-17 – Creole String Beans & Ghost Tequila

On this edition of the NOLADrinks Show, in the second hour, we welcome Rico Olivier and Rob Savoy of the Creole String Beans! A great New Orleans band. We talk about their music as well as their love of drink and food stemming from their growing up in Louisiana. In the first hour, Richard Alexander Pomes, co-owner of New Orleans-owned, Ghost Tequila, stops by to taste and discuss their unique Tequila that is infused with ghost peppers.

NOLADrinks Show – Ghost Tequila and The Creole String Beans

We kick-off the show with a discussion of a couple ways you can help victims of the recent tornadoes here in Louisiana including Second Harvest Food Bank and a drop-off center for needed goods and supplies. We then talk about a few events, including some Carnival connected stuff, going on around town.

Richard Alexander Pomes, co-owner of Ghost Tequila, comes on the show to talk about their product. Richard is a New Orleans area native who was, formerly, the national brand ambassador for Fireball. He and his partner, who is based in Massachusetts, launched the brand a few months ago and have been enjoying great success. Originally intended as a sort of “shot and a beer” drink, it has now found its way into cocktails. It’s 100% agave Tequila that is infused, through a somewhat atypical process, with East Indian Ghost Peppers. We sample it (shots!) neat and then in a couple drinks – a Bloody Maria (a Bloody Mary variation) and a Mexican Mule (a Moscow Mule variation.)

In the second hour, Rob Savoy and Rico Olivier, founding members of the New Orleans-based Creole String Beans join the show. It’s a funny and lively conversation, to say the least, with these guys! We talk about their music (including their great new album, “Golden Crown”) and their history. They draw on Swamp Pop, Louisiana Roots Music, and New Orleans R&B to shape their sound – both in their original songs and those they cover. It’s upbeat, dance music perfect your NOLA party! We also talk about their love of food and drink as they both grew up in Louisiana and were raised around the culture of local food. Of course, we spin bits of some of their tunes in and out the breaks. Check it out!

This segment, which we call “Soul Skillet,” is a new semi-regular feature on the NOLADrinks Show.
