On this edition of the NOLADrinks Show, we have our “At the Bar” segment recorded on-location at Bakery Bar. We interview various members of the New Orleans service industry. Also on the show, we discuss the tradition of Champagne on New Year’s and wrap-up the year!

NOLADrinks – 12-29-16 – At the Bar – Bakery Bar

We open the show talking about and highlighting some of the multitude of options for celebrating New Year’s in NOLA. We then discuss a bit about the tradition of consuming Champagne on the holiday and how it came to be. If you’re interested in learning more about Champagne, check out our show from earlier in December with Michael Knisley of Bubblyothèque here.

We then feature our At the Bar segment. With this segment, we typically interview members of the New Orleans service industry, food and beverage professionals, and others connected to the world of drink and food in NOLA and beyond.

We recorded this portion of the show on-location at Bakery Bar, a fairly new establishment that is run by the owners of Debbie Does Doberge, a business that specializes in this traditional New Orleans cake. Bakery Bar combines Doberge, a full food menu, and craft cocktails. A popular spot for service industry members, they host a regular Tuesday brunch that attracts many of these folks. Moving forward, we will regularly do the show from there – about once a month or so – during a Tuesday brunch service. If you’re in the industry, stop by! Stay tuned for more information.

At the Bar, this time around, features chats with Charles Mary and Jeff Schwartz of Bakery Bar, Jesse James Stephenson and Kyle McElfresh of Josephine Estelle, and Steve Yamada of Twelve Mile Limit. We discuss various things including their establishments and backgrounds. Charles informs us about what Doberge is and how Bakery Bar works. We talk pairing cake and cocktails with Jeff. Jesse and Kyle talk about the approach to food and drink at Josephine Estelle. Steve lets us know about Twelve Mile Limit and we even get into board games!

We close out the show with some trends from 2016. We then finish with some thoughts on 2016 in New Orleans and looking ahead to 2017. Thanks for tuning into the NOLADrinks Show. We hope you continue to do so in 2017 and hope that you and yours enjoy a prosperous, joyous, and safe New Year!
