The NOLADrinks Show – 7-16-18 – Gary Solomon Jr. of Tales of the Cocktail – Ian McNulty of Restaurant Writer for The Advocate

We start things off right away with our first of two featured interviews. Gary Solomon Jr., co-chair of the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, joins us for a chat about the organization’s new leadership, new structure as a true educational non-profit, and kicking-off their signature event – Tales of the Cocktail taking place this week in New Orleans.

We discuss Gary’s background including his family’s long-standing history of philanthropic work in the city. We also talk about the importance of Tales to the city of New Orleans and how keeping it here was central to their efforts in acquiring the foundation.

Thanks to our friends at Sylvain for hosting us for this interview.

Next, we head over to Tujague’s for our second featured interview, this time with Ian McNulty of The New Orleans Advocate. We talk about the restaurant industry here in town including a discussion on some of The Advocate’s and Ian’s recent reporting on closures, openings, and the number of restaurants found in the city. It’s a fascinating conversation about the recent turbulent times the industry has faced.

We talk with Ian about his background and how came to work at the Advocate covering the restaurant and food scene. We also have a great discussion about the sense of place we have in New Orleans and how that is a critical part of the restaurant landscape, which in turn, is a critical part of our economy and culture.

Thanks to Tujague’s for hosting us for the interview with Ian.

On “Another Shot with NOLADrinks,” we continue or conversations with Ian and Gary. We continue with Ian and then pick back up with Gary. We close things out with our “Parting Shot” with some thoughts on New Orleans’ sense of place.
