On this edition of the New Orleans Dine, Wine & Spirits Show – NOLADrinks Edition from September 8, 2016, we, first, chat with Joe Pilie, General Manager of the recently opened Mid-City restaurant, “Vessel.” They opened in the old “Christian’s” spot which is, uniquely, a church. Joe discusses their opening, the design of the place, and, of course, the food and drink.

Above, from right – Bryan Dias, NOLADrinks; Gillian White, Robért LeBlanc & Roger Eyles – Meauxbar.

We then welcome that gang from Meauxbar – Robért LeBlanc, owner; Roger Eyles, general manager; and Gillian White, bar manager. We cover a range of topics – the imminent opening of the new streetcar line on N. Rampart, where they are located, and what that means to their business, as well as that of their neighbors. It’s an interesting conversation where we talk about how that may be the last “grand boulevard” in the heart of the city to experience this revitalization. Gillian whips us up a “Last Word” cocktail to enjoy during the conversation. The restaurant is re-opening today (Friday, September 9, 2016), after closing for a few days to get a little “face lift” inside. We talk about their menu, the bar program, hospitality, and more.

Lastly, we talk about the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, which took place on the day, and a bit about how alcohol (fictional and real) are connected to the show. We also taste the commemorative “Star Trek 50th Anniversary Golden Ale: The Trouble with Tribbles” by Shmaltz Brewery and the story behind that. Check out the podcast here –
