NOLADrinks Show – 9-7-17 – More on the Restaurant Business in New Orleans and Love in the Garden at NOMA

We kick-off the show talking about things going on around town this weekend and the coming days. This includes a special event for hospitality industry members interested in participating in South Africa Wine Week taking place in New Orleans from 10/30 to 11/5. The kick-off event, where you can learn about getting your venue involved, sip on some South African Wine, and meet Wines of South Africa US Market Manager, Jim Clarke, takes place this Tuesday (9/12) from 9 pm to midnight at Pearl Wine Co. If you’re interested in attending, please email wosausa@colangelopr.com. See more here on our Facebook page

First up, we pay a visit to the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). It’s a terrific spot located in New Orleans’ City Park. They are hosting a special outdoor event on Friday evening, September 22 on their beautiful grounds called Love in the Garden. The event will feature live music, great food from numerous New Orleans restaurants, a cocktail competition, and more! It’s all to celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden (a spot not to be missed on any NOLA itinerary, like the museum itself) and to support the terrific institution that is NOMA. Various ticket levels and particulars are available. Listen in and see more here…

Next, we revisit our ongoing discussion of the restaurant business in New Orleans. We welcome frequent guest, Robért LeBlanc of LeBlanc+Smith restaurant group, which runs Sylvain, Meauxbar, Cavan, and Barrel Proof. Neal Bodenheimer of Cure Co., which operates Cure and Cane & Table, joins the show for the first time, as well. Both Neal and Robért have experienced good success, but also significant failure. They are both very honest and candid in both regards. If you are thinking about opening a restaurant or bar in New Orleans (or anywhere for that matter), work in the business, support and are interested in the hospitably scene, etc., this discussion is not to be missed.

Part of the conversation focuses on the end-of-summer scene here in New Orleans – it was a rough one with at least 15 significant establishment closures. We also talk about capitalization, the shorter window to “get things right,” managing media expectations and results, empowering and maintaining staff morale in the slow summer months, guest management this time of year, and much, much more. Again, don’t miss this important talk.

Below the map that features some of the locations discussed on the show, you can subscribe to, stream, and download the NOLADrinks Show podcast.

Cheers, You All!
