NOLADrinks Show – 11-16-17 – Fred Parent of Hendrick’s Gin and a Visit to Brennan’s Restaurant

As usual, we kick things off with some show notes (including how we are running a previous show next week on Thanksgiving) and some events happening around town.

We get into things, first up, with Fred Parent, Brand Ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin. It’s a lively chat with Fred who has familial roots in Southeast Louisiana. We discuss his background and some interesting projects and things in which he’s involved.

Of course, we talk about Hendrick’s Gin and enjoy a Ramos Gin Fizz while taping the show at the Bourbon O Bar located in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Fred details a bit about the Hendrick’s story, the distillery, and more.

We then stop by the historic French Quarter restaurant, Brennan’s. We chat with family member, Patrick Brennan, and beverage director, Braithe Tidwell (both pictured at left). We talk and enjoy a bite and sip with them in their wine room – a special spot in the establishment.

We discuss the history of the restaurant including its takeover by the Ralph Brennan portion of the family and how they redid and remade much of the spot’s interior. We also talk about their menu, executive chef Slade Rushing, the beverage program, and much more. We cover how they have worked to reconnect the menu and other aspects of Brennan’s with the restaurant’s famed past.

We close things out with some parting thoughts and some ideas for Thanksgiving wine pairing.
