NOLADrinks Show – 11-2-17- Wines of South Africa – Boudin, Bourbon and Beer!

We start things off with a brief discussion of some of the events going on with South Africa Wine Week and some other tidbits and programming notes. Importantly, we tell you how you can win a trip for two to South Africa!

We then welcome Jim Clarke, U.S. Market Manager for Wines of South Africa (WOSA) and Jenni Lynch, GM of Mondo and Rosedale restaurants. Both are Susan Spicer owned operations. We continue with our ongoing coverage of South Africa Wine Week, put on by WOSA, currently taking place in and around New Orleans. It’s the first time for this terrific event that boasts numerous venues around the area featuring South African wines.

In this conversation with Jim and Jenni, we taste some wines from the region and discuss them, their stories, and delve somewhat into the regions and terroir from where they come. We also touch on the benefits of these wines including great quality (especially for the price!) and their food-friendly nature. Jim shares lots of great info on what we are tasting and Jenni adds her view on why they work and are great fits on their menus.

Next up, Alyssa Braden and Maggie Robert (pictured at left) of Babes and Beignets, a terrific lifestyle blog and social media presence focusing on young women in New Orleans as their primary audience, but also has lots of great stuff for everyone, join the show. The focus of our conversation is the upcoming Boudin, Bourbon, and Beer event taking place in New Orleans. It’s a terrific happening put on by the Emeril Lagasse Foundation benefitting numerous youth charities in the area. It’s a “who’s who” of chefs (over 60!) that turn out great food along with excellent drinks and top-rate live music.

Maggie and Alyssa discuss how to get the most out of a visit to Boudin, Bourbon and Beer! It’s a fun chat about the event, to be sure. We also talk about Babes and Beignets and how you can connect with them online.
